Crackdown Against Fake Medicines Sweeps Across Pakistan


 Nationwide Crackdown on Illegal Profiteering in Pakistan’s Pharmaceutical Sector

In a proactive move against illegal profiteering and the circulation of unregistered medicines, a nationwide crackdown is underway in Pakistan. Directed by the Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, the campaign aims to ensure the availability of genuine and affordable medications for the public. Distributors, pharmacies, and medical stores are currently under intensive scrutiny through raids conducted in major cities across the country.

 Alarming Discoveries in Karachi’s Pharmacies Exposed During Raids

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) team, in a recent raid in Karachi, exposed alarming instances of illicit practices in pharmacies and medical stores. Notably, essential medical components like Heparin injection were found being sold at exorbitant prices, far exceeding the approved cost. Other medications, including Tramal Injection, Augmentin DS Suspension, and Hydraline Syrup, were also identified as being sold at inflated prices, leading to immediate seizure and sealing by health authorities.

 Minister for Health Takes Swift Legal Action Against Pharmacy Owners

In response to the discoveries, the Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, has initiated legal proceedings against implicated pharmacy owners, utilizing the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan Act. Emphasizing strict actions against those exploiting and jeopardizing public health, the minister underscores the importance of accountability. This crackdown serves as a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to prioritizing public health and eradicating the menace of fake and overpriced medications.
