China Launches Submarine for Pakistan Navy

China has launched the first Hangor-class submarine for Pakistan’s Navy at a ceremony in Wuhan. This event marks a significant step in the partnership between China and Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of maritime security in the region. Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the submarine’s state-of-the-art technology and its role in maintaining regional stability. The project is part of a broader deal that includes building eight submarines for Pakistan, with four to be constructed in China and four in Pakistan under a technology transfer arrangement.

Advanced Technology in Hangor-Class Submarines

The Hangor-class submarines, built by China for Pakistan’s Navy, feature cutting-edge technology. They are equipped with advanced weapons and sensors that allow them to engage targets from a distance. This makes them a valuable addition to Pakistan’s maritime defense capabilities. Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the progress of the project and the collaboration with China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC), noting that these submarines will play a key role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

China-Pakistan Partnership Strengthens Through Defense Collaboration

The launch of the first Hangor-class submarine for Pakistan’s Navy underscores the strong relationship between China and Pakistan. This collaboration highlights the commitment of both countries to working together on significant defense projects. The deal involves eight submarines, with technology transfer allowing Pakistan to build four of them at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW). This project reflects the enduring friendship between the two nations and their focus on enhancing maritime security in the region. It follows other defense collaborations, including Pakistan’s acquisition of two Chinese Type 054 A/P frigates last year.
