Federal Government to Provide 150 Buses to Karachi’s Public Transportation System

During a visit to Karachi, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that the Federal Government would provide 150 buses to the city to support its growing transportation needs. The request came from Sindh’s Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, who originally asked for 300 buses. While the Federal Government couldn’t meet the entire request, they agreed to provide half, aiming to enhance Karachi’s public transportation system. This initiative is expected to offer better commuting options for residents. The Prime Minister commended the Sindh Government’s efforts to improve transportation and expressed a desire to work with the Provincial Government to enhance Karachi’s infrastructure.

Discussion on Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) Project

The meeting at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi, where the bus announcement was made, also included discussions on the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah shared with the Prime Minister that a revised feasibility study for the KCR was completed in 2023, and this information was shared with the Economic Affairs Division and the Ministry of Transport in China. The Chief Minister requested the Prime Minister’s assistance in expediting the KCR project, including obtaining the “Right of Way” from the Railways Ministry. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the Planning Minister to work on addressing these issues to ensure the KCR project could move forward without delays.

Collaborative Efforts to Address Karachi’s Transportation Challenges

The Federal and Provincial Governments are working collaboratively to improve Karachi’s transportation system, as evidenced by the recent announcements and discussions. The Federal Government’s provision of 150 buses, along with ongoing support for infrastructure projects like the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), highlights the commitment to enhancing the daily lives of Karachi’s residents. This partnership aims to address transportation challenges and create better commuting options for the city’s population. With coordinated efforts from both levels of government, Karachi’s transportation system is poised for significant improvements in the coming years.
