US Warns Pakistan About Iran Trade Agreement
The United States recently cautioned Pakistan about potential sanctions following trade agreements with Iran during President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Pakistan. Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, emphasized the risks associated with business dealings with Iran due to existing U.S. sanctions. Despite this warning, Pakistan continued its engagements with Iran, highlighting its focus on strengthening bilateral relations and foreign policy autonomy.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi recently concluded a three-day official visit to Pakistan, where he met with key Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari. During the visit, Pakistan and Iran signed eight agreements to enhance cooperation in various fields such as trade, technology, agriculture, health, culture, and judicial matters. The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Rimdan-Gabd Joint Free/Special Zone, signaling a new chapter in economic collaboration.
