Celebrating International Labour Day to Support Workers' Rights International Labour Day is observed worldwide to show support for workers and raise awareness about their rights. This year's theme focuses on workplace safety and health in the face of climate change, reminding everyone of the importance of fair wages and safe working conditions. In Pakistan, International Labour Day is a public holiday, with trade unions and workers' groups organizing rallies and demonstrations to promote better working conditions. Despite these efforts, many workers in Pakistan continue to live in poverty, struggling to meet basic needs. To improve their lives, the government set the minimum wage at Rs 32,000 last year, a step towards ensuring a fair income for all workers.

Pakistan's Labor Policy and Commitment to Workers' Welfare Pakistan's labor policy, first established in 1972, made May 1 an official holiday and introduced programs like social security and benefits for older workers to support them as they age. The country's constitution also contains provisions to defend workers' rights, indicating the significance of these issues in Pakistan. International Labour Day has a long history, dating back to the late 1800s when the labor movement gained momentum. Today, it is celebrated in over 80 countries, with most observing it on May 1. In the United States and Canada, however, it is celebrated on the first Monday of September.
