US Backs Pakistan's Anti-Terror Efforts: Operation Azm-e-Istehkam Garners International Support

The United States has publicly backed Pakistan's recent anti-terrorism initiative, Operation Azm-e-Istehkam. This support comes amid rising concerns over security challenges in the region, emphasizing mutual interests in combating terrorism while upholding human rights and the rule of law. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller highlighted ongoing bilateral efforts in counterterrorism dialogue and capacity-building, underscoring the importance of military cooperation between the two nations.

However, alongside endorsing Pakistan's efforts, the US has expressed unease over recent incidents in Pakistan, including mob violence and religious intolerance. Miller stressed the fundamental importance of respecting human rights, religious freedom, and freedoms of expression and assembly. These principles are central to US policy and are consistently raised in dialogues with Pakistani authorities.

Despite endorsing Pakistan's counterterrorism operations, the US maintains a critical stance on human rights issues, emphasizing the need for Pakistan to uphold these universal values. This stance underscores the complex but essential relationship between the two countries in addressing regional security challenges while promoting fundamental rights and freedoms.
