First Case of Mpox Detected in Pakistan in 2024

In 2024, Pakistan confirmed its first case of Mpox, a zoonotic disease, after a young man from Dir, living in Mardan, tested positive upon returning from the Middle East. The announcement came soon after the World Health Organization declared Mpox a global health concern.

The Pakistani government is taking swift action to prevent the spread of the disease. Authorities are tracing all individuals who may have come into contact with the infected man. Medical personnel at borders are on high alert for further cases. Additionally, hospitals are preparing special rooms, and ensuring ample supplies of medicine and protective gear for healthcare workers.

This isn’t the first time Mpox has appeared in Pakistan; there have been 11 cases over the past two years, all involving individuals returning from abroad. As Mpox spreads to new regions globally, it’s crucial for everyone to remain cautious, especially after traveling, and to maintain good hygiene to protect themselves and others.
