Pakistan Celebrates 77th Independence Day in New York

On Wednesday, Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day was marked with a simple yet meaningful ceremony at the Pakistan House in New York. Ambassador Munir Akram led the event, raising the Pakistani flag, with support from the Pakistan team at the United Nations and the Pakistani office in New York.

Ambassador Akram honored Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, recalling his role in founding Pakistan as a homeland for South Asian Muslims. He also emphasized the significance of Kashmir, stating that Pakistan’s independence remains incomplete without the self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

In his speech, Akram outlined four key suggestions for Pakistan’s future: following Jinnah’s principles, improving the economy, strengthening the military, and fostering international relations.

Consul General Aamer Ahmad Atozai highlighted the importance of Pakistanis abroad as ambassadors of the nation. Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed support for Kashmir and Palestine. The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting and prayers for Pakistan’s continued peace and prosperity.
