Is India Planning to Support Pakistan's BRICS Membership?

The 2024 BRICS Summit in Kazan has brought together world leaders like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss global economic cooperation. This year’s summit holds added significance due to BRICS expansion talks and Pakistan's formal request to join the bloc.

BRICS, which initially included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has already welcomed new members like Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the UAE. Pakistan is vying for a seat in the expanded BRICS grouping. Russian support for Pakistan's bid has intensified speculation about India’s potential stance on the matter.

India’s acceptance of Pakistan's BRICS membership would signify a major diplomatic breakthrough. The theme of the 2024 summit, "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security," emphasizes the role of emerging economies in the Global South.

With the summit set to conclude soon, many eyes are on the member nations to see if Pakistan, along with other hopefuls, will be invited to join the influential bloc.
