Pakistan’s Fight Against Polio: PM Shehbaz Sharif Launches New Measures

In a resolute move towards eradicating polio, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Pakistan polio-free. Addressing a recent polio summit in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of unity and decisive action in achieving this goal. He announced an independent audit of the current anti-polio campaign, aiming to strengthen areas that have lagged in immunization coverage.

With 41 active polio cases in the country, the government’s focus is on boosting vaccination rates in high-risk areas, especially where low Routine Immunization Uptake (RIU) has left communities vulnerable. Senior health officials, including Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath and Ayesha Raza Farooq, have been directed to prioritize these areas, ensuring that all children receive the necessary polio vaccinations.

The government’s holistic strategy includes additional resources for routine immunization, further illustrating Pakistan’s dedication to protecting future generations from polio. This initiative marks a significant step in securing a healthier, polio-free future for every child in Pakistan.
