Punjab Imposes Section 144 Ahead of PTI Protest

 The Punjab government has invoked Section 144 across the province in anticipation of the Pakistan


Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for November 24, 2024, in Islamabad. This decision reflects heightened political tensions and the administration’s efforts to maintain public order amidst calls for nationwide demonstrations by jailed PTI founder, Imran Khan.

Understanding Section 144

Section 144 is a legal provision that prohibits the gathering of five or more people in public spaces, aimed at preventing disturbances. According to the notification by the Punjab Home Department, this restriction will be enforced from November 23 to November 25. Violators may face legal action, as the measure is designed to counter potential security threats.

PTI’s Demands and Political Implications

PTI’s leadership has presented conditions to negotiate, demanding:

  1. The immediate release of Imran Khan.
  2. The withdrawal of what they term “fabricated” cases against him.
  3. His transfer to Peshawar prison if judicial delays persist.
