Pakistan Joins UN Commission on Drugs Again
Pakistan has been elected again to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) for four years, from 2026 to 2029. This happened during a meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New York. Pakistan received the most votes among the countries that were trying to get elected, which shows strong international support.
The CND is an important group in the UN that works on drug-related issues. It makes policies to fight drug trafficking and helps countries deal with drug abuse and addiction. By joining this commission again, Pakistan will have a chance to take part in important decisions about drug control across the world.
Pakistan got 50 votes, more than countries like Kazakhstan, UAE, Kyrgyzstan, and Iran. This shows that many countries trust Pakistan’s efforts to fight the problem of drugs. Pakistan has worked hard in the past to stop illegal drug trade and help people who suffer from drug addiction.
Over the years, Pakistan has taken strong steps to control the use and supply of drugs. It has made laws and started programs to stop the smuggling of drugs and help people recover from drug addiction. Being part of the UN commission will help Pakistan share its experience and learn from others too.
Pakistan’s representatives at the UN thanked other countries for their support. They promised that Pakistan will continue to work hard to stop the spread of drugs and make the world a safer place. They also said Pakistan will help make better international drug policies.
This membership is a big opportunity for Pakistan. It will help the country work more closely with others to stop the drug problem. Together with other members, Pakistan can support prevention, treatment, and stronger laws to reduce the harm caused by drugs around the world.
