Pakistan's First Astronaut to Journey into Space with China's Support

In a significant advancement for Pakistan's space ambitions, the country is set to send its first astronaut into space through a collaboration with China.

An agreement between Pakistan's Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) was signed in February 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the nation's scientific endeavors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded this development as a testament to the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and China, emphasizing its role in fostering mutual knowledge-sharing and peaceful space exploration.

Under this agreement, two Pakistani astronauts will undergo comprehensive training at China's Astronaut Center.

One of them will be selected as a scientific payload specialist, preparing to conduct specialized research aboard the China Space Station (CSS), also known as Tiangong. The selection process is expected to conclude by 2026, aligning with CSS's mission schedules.
