Pakistan’s passport climbs to 100th rank on global index

Image

This marks a steady climb from 113th place in 2021, reflecting Pakistan’s improved diplomatic efforts, foreign policy outreach, and growing global cooperation. As a result of this upward shift, Pakistani passport holders can now travel to 32 countries either without a visa or by obtaining a visa on arrival. This includes select countries in Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The improvement makes international travel slightly easier for Pakistanis, especially for tourism and short business trips. A key factor behind this progress is the new visa exemption agreement with the UAE, signed recently. Under this deal, official and diplomatic passport holders from both nations can travel without needing a visa, saving time and simplifying official travel. This move also indicates growing trust and cooperation between Islamabad and Ab...

Pakistan reach FIH Nations Cup semi-final

Image
Pakistan men’s hockey team on Wednesday, stormed into the FIH Nations Cup semi-final despite Malaysia’s victory over Japan in the last Pool B match, held here at the National Hockey Stadium. The green shirts earlier played their last league-stage match against New Zealand and suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat, which put them languishing on the outcome of the subsequent fixture.  Malaysia, placed third in the standings with one point and a goal difference of negative one after two matches, needed to beat Japan by a margin of two goals to topple Pakistan’s goal difference to secure second spot, which would have earned them semi-final qualification. Although they managed to beat Japan 2-1, it meant that their goal difference could not surpass that of Pakistan, who joined New Zealand from Pool B to reach the final four. The green shirts will now face Pool A leaders France in the first semi-final on Friday, while New Zealand and Korea will lock horns in the other knockout fixture late...

South Africa win WTC to land first major title

Image
South Africa beat Australia by five wickets in the World Test Championship final to end their long wait for a major global title. The Proteas had resumed their second innings on 213-2 and needed 69 runs to wrap up victory on day four at Lord's. Australia captain Pat Cummins struck in the third over of the day to dismiss opposite number Temba Bavuma, caught behind for 66, to inject a semblance of belief. Then with 41 runs required, Mitchell Starc bowled Tristan Stubbs through the gate to cause a little more anxiety in the South Africa dressing room. However, centurion Aiden Markram continued where he left off from the previous day as he put South Africa on the brink of victory with a superb 136. Markram, the only player to make a hundred in the match, missed out on the chance to hit the winning runs when he flicked Josh Hazlewood into the hands of Travis Head at mid-wicket with the winning post in sight. That left David Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne to see South Africa over the lin...
