PM Sharif arrived in Davos for the World Economic Forum's 56th Annual Meeting


 Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be attending the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) session on “Restoring a Spirit of Dialogue in a Divided World” on Wednesday (today) in Davos, according to a post on the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) X account.

The premier is on a three-day visit to the Swiss town (from January 20-22), primarily to lead a high-level delegation from Pakistan, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, at the 56th Annual Session of the WEF.

According to the PMO, he is also expected to meet International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva today. Moreover, he is also expected to meet “various world leaders on the sidelines of the WEF”, the PMO statement on X said.

It added that the premier will also attend and address a “breakfast event”.

The premier arrived in Davos on Tuesday. In a post on X, PM Shehbaz wrote that he was visiting Davos to advance Pakistan’s engagement at the WEF with global trade and investment partners.

“Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform journey is unlocking profound opportunities, driven by a resilient and entrepreneurial workforce and significant potential across energy, agriculture, minerals, and emerging technologies,” PM Shehbaz said.

He added that Pakistan was “ready to harness this potential into mutually beneficial economic cooperation and long-term investment”.

According to the Foreign Office (FO), the prime minister will also host and chair a Pakistan-specific “High-level Business Roundtable” with different corporate leaders during the visit.

“Articulating Pakistan’s perspective on global and regional peace and development and highlighting the government’s vision and achievements in the areas of economy, trade and investment opportunities will be part of the prime minister’s key messages during the visit,” the FO statement said.

Dar inaugurates Pakistan Pavilion, meets Canadian FM on sidelines

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar inaugurated the Pathfinder Group’s Pakistan Pavilion on the sidelines of the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, according to a post by the Foreign Office on X.

The foreign minister lauded the initiative to showcase Pakistan’s vast economic potential and emerging opportunities on a global platform, while highlighting the dynamism and innovation of the country’s start-ups.
